student research on fleas in nests of barnacle geese |

Ross Wetherbee is an American master student at the University in Oslo, who is studying fleas infestations in barnacle goose nests. He is planning to relate the infestation intensity to the fitness of the birds. Today we are on Storholmen, a breeding island and sanctuary, to map the nests and to record the flea intensity. Fleas take blood from the geese and defaecate the ingested blood on the eggs. Poor incubating female geese. | |
