collecting polar bear poop | 12 July 2026 |
Yesterday, during dinner, a polar bear was walking on the coast of Solvatnet. The bear was observed by everyone from the canteen. Douwe Hoekstra made the picture above and earlier the video below. We see the bear pooping. Daga works for the Norwegian Polar Institute and wants to collect the poop for DNA-based diet analysis. We go together in the rain. To our surprise we see only small faeces clumps. We sample it, but in hindsight we think these were only old reindeer droppings. | |
