SchoolTV: De trek van de brandgans

Ecoloog Maarten Loonen reist al zo'n 25 jaar met de brandgans mee naar het Noorden. Als in het voorjaar de graskwaliteit in Europa afneemt, vliegen de ganzen naar het Noorden.
Hier krijgen ze hun jongen. De aanwezigheid van de ganzen heeft invloed op de poolvos- en ijsbeerpopulatie. Biologen hebben waargenomen dat door klimaatverandering het aankomsttijdstip van de ganzen vervroegd is. Vraag is hoe de ganzen weten dat het gras eerder groen is? Ook blijven steeds meer ganzen in Europa. Dat heeft te maken met het maai- en natuurbeleid. Hierdoor groeien de Nederlandse populaties exponentieel.
